Stewardship as a Way of Life

A STEWARDSHIP PRAYER

Generous and loving God,
you call us to be disciples of your Son Jesus
and stewards of your many gifts.

Open our minds and hearts
to a greater awareness and a deeper appreciation
of your countless blessings.

Transform us through the power of your Spirit
to nurture a stewardship way of life
marked by faith-filled prayer,
service to our neighbor, and generous sharing.

Teach us to be good stewards of your gifts.
With Mary's help, may we return tenfold
the gifts you have entrusted to us.

Bless us with a deeper devotion to prayer ―
a prayer that leads us to share more fully
in Christ's gift of self in the Eucharist ―
a growing commitment to service,
and true generosity in supporting and advancing
the mission of the church.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Christian stewardship is really quite simple.  It's about gratitude.  It's about God's goodness to us and how we gratefully lift up to God all that is important in our lives.  It's about giving back to God the first and the best in all that we do and are.

Saint Jean Baptiste depends on the generous support of our parishioners and friends to further the mission of Jesus Christ in our day.

The gift of time, talent, and treasure, in the spirit of faithful stewardship, expresses our concern for the needs of the parish family and its various ministries and programs.

The American Catholic bishops have written: "Stewardship is not simply making donations or taking care of the building and grounds.  It is a spirituality, a way of life," made up of four aspects:

          - Receiving the gifts of God with gratitude;
          - Cultivating them responsibly;
          - Sharing them generously in justice and compassion for others;
          - Standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability.

The bishops conclude by saying, "It is up to you to determine how you will live out this stewardship way of life.  You will not be alone, however.  Millions of fellow Catholics are traveling together with you."
