The historic landmark Church of Saint Jean Baptiste possesses one of the only domes in a New York City house of worship, rising 175 feet above Lexington Avenue. Utilizing the acoustical “sweet spot” of the nave, ensembles perform directly under the dome at the center of the transept of Saint Jean Baptiste Church in what critics have described as a perfect acoustical setting in New York City. With a seating capacity of 850 people, the church is able to present orchestral and choral concerts with up to 250 musicians and, with the console of the Harris/Wicks Organ located in the front of the nave, choral ensembles can also be accompanied by the organ alone. Many ensembles include this space among their concert venues.
