Goal for the 2018 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal:
THE CARDINAL’S APPEAL IS UNDER WAY
Registered parishioners have received a letter from the Cardinal sharing his goals for this year’s Appeal. He reminded us of our mission to continue bringing Jesus’ message to the people of our Archdiocese. Therefore, we must ensure that: our ministry groups reach out in Adult Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Young Adult Outreach, and University Apostolates; that our parishes have enough money to operate, and have priests to serve in them; that we continue our prison and hospital ministry; reach out to families, assist our retired priests and religious; help to keep our grade schools and religious education programs healthy and effective, and our reach out to the poor.
Our goal for this year’s Appeal has been set at $111,000. Please consider a donation to the Appeal. There will be envelopes at the rear of the church for the next few months for your convenience. Thank you.
The Sunday collection…..
WeShare donations amounted to: $2,415.00
Please take note: All user data, scheduled recurring donations, and scheduled one-time donations are now handled by WeShare another online giving service

RITE OF SENDING/RITE OF ELECTION
At the 11:00 AM Mass this week, we will bless our catechumens: St. Jean’s Baptiste High School students Alexandra Illa-Acosta and Thais Peralta, along with adults Mei Van Bergh and Mark Van Sickle. They have been preparing to enter the Catholic Church with Ms. Rosemarie Beitz of St. Jean Baptiste High School and our RCIA team, Fr. Ernest Falardeau, SSS, Sister Stephanie Veluz, RSCJ and Ms. Joan Prenty.
This blessing will prepare them to be presented to the Archdiocesan community at 2:00 PM the same afternoon in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Cardinal Dolan will officiate at the ceremony. The Rite of Election is celebrated all over the world on the First Sunday of Lent. Their names will be recorded in Book of the Elect, and will be kept at St. Patrick’s. Please pray for them as they enter into this intense period of prayer and contemplation. They will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion and Confirmation at our Easter Vigil, Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 PM
ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAM
St. Jean’s will be taking part in a program sponsored by Con Ed to improve energy efficiency, and to help relieve the strain on the city’s electric grid. Con Ed will assist us in upgrading our plant. This will involve replacing many of our present lighting fixtures with LED compatible ones.
The cost to upgrade the Rectory is $37,485.00. Our portion of the bill will be $12,552.60.
The cost to upgrade the Community Center will be $14,745. Our portion of the bill will be $6,137.50. At the present time the many theatrical lights in the theater cannot be upgraded but we are studying the possibility of purchasing more energy efficient fixtures.
The entire Church cannot be upgraded at the present time because we have a number of theatrical lights (for the altar), high wattage lights (in the pendants) and exterior lights (for the exterior lighting of the church building), that are not yet able to be upgraded to LED fixtures. (The color of the light is an important factor.) We are looking into the possibility of replacing the present interior pendants with LED friendly fixtures, but this project is down the road. We will, however, be replacing all the fixtures we can. The present project for the church will cost $28,650.00. Our portion of the bill is $8,747.20.
Our cost for the entire project – upgrading the church, rectory and community center is $27,437.30. We should recoup our investment in one year.
THE FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF ST. PETER JULIAN EYMARD
Monday, February, 5th is a special day for the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. We celebrate the baptism of our founder, St. Peter Julian Eymard. He never celebrated his birth day, February 4th. He believed that the day of his spiritual birth more noteworthy. We invite you to pray with us as we celebrate our founder’s baptism.
Heavenly Father, you gave St. Peter Julian Eymard a deep sense of gratitude for the gift of his Baptism. He saw it as the beginning of a life filled with grace. Through his intercession, may we discover what you have called us to be at the time of our own baptism. Grant us the grace to live our Christian vocation in creative fidelity to your call. Amen.
